My 5-year-old daughter is overweight, is it too early to put her on a diet?
Yes. Your daughter is too young to be put on a diet. If she is overweight at this age, then there must be something wrong with her diet or lifestyle. Most children today are addicted to sugar and junk food, which are the main causes of weight gain. Instead of putting your daughter on a diet, limit her consumption of sugar to once a week maximum and get her used to the natural sweetness of fresh fruits. Also, take out all junk food and replace it with healthy home-cooked meals. If you are already doing that, then you must get her more active with sports or activities at least four times a week. DO NOT tell your child that she is overweight and do not discuss your own weight problems in front of her. Once you maintain a healthy diet and lifestyle for her, she will grow into her weight.
